One of the many benefits of visiting Patmos is the ease with which it can be reached. If a visit to the “Jerusalem of the Aegean,” as it is often referred to, is in your immediate plans, it will be easy for you. It is not difficult to get there, and with several options, you have enough freedom to choose the one that best suits you. You can find the best way to get to the island based on your preferences, time, and financial resources. It’s also a very convenient destination if you’re planning to do some “wandering” that includes more than one island. Patmos is close to some of Greece’s most beautiful earthly paradises (and beyond).
How to Travel by Boat to Patmos
From the Piraeus port
Routes to Patmos had to be included in the country’s largest port. These itineraries run almost daily, so you won’t have trouble finding an available ticket or a convenient date. During the summer, when routes are more frequent, there are four departures to Patmos. You can also take the boat to our island from gate E1, where all ships depart for the Dodecanese. Depending on the company you travel with, the trip can last anywhere from 7 to 10 hours.

From Rhodes
If you are in Rhodes or for any other reason, you can travel to Patmos from the “Island of the Knights.” The ferry routes are operated daily during the summer season, with the journey lasting 6 – 9 hours.
From Kos
One of the closest islands to Patmos is Kos. As a result, many people travel from there to our lovely island. The ferry ride in question lasts no more than 3.5 hours and is extremely frequent. We would say it is daily, especially during the summer.

From Samos
Samos is another favorite Dodecanese Island t. The distance between the two dream destinations is so short, which drives many people to combine their vacations. Having started from the island of Pythagoras, you can disembark at the port of Patmos. During the summer season, the routes are daily, as in the previous cases. You can make the “lightning trip” between Samos and Patmos on any day that works for you and your schedule. When we say “lightning,” we mean that it only lasts 1.5-3.5 hours.
From Syros
Ermoupoli, the Cycladic capital, has its own “access” to Patmos. It is a popular route for travelers, as Syros is a well-known destination for summer vacations. This itinerary is offered several times per week and has “untied” the hands of many who wish to visit both the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
From Ikaria
Routes from Ag. Kiriko of Ikaria to Patmos is available all year. It is Ikaria’s largest port. There are also ferries from Evdilos (Ikaria’s second port) to Patmos. This is a 55-minute – 2-hour trip with very reasonable prices and frequent departures.
Which ship can take you to Patmos?
Okay, we’ve listed all of the ports in the country from which you can reach Patmos. But first, let’s look at the ships you have to choose from. As a result, in addition to traditional ships, you can “set sail” with a catamaran from the ports of Leros, Kos, Kalymnos, and Rhodes. From July to September, you can also travel with the Flying Dolphins. In 2022 for the first time, there will be available departures from Alimos to Patmos by seaplane.
Traveling by plane to Patmos
Patmos is devoid of an airport. If you are tired of long journeys and want to cut the distance, you can fly to the nearest airports, which are Samos, Kos, and Leros, and then take a ship to Patmos.
